NEW ROSE RECORD STORE
7 Rue Pierre Sarrazin - 75006 Paris

The Store was the heart of the label.
It opened march 1st 1980. The location was great, just in the middle of the latin quarter of Paris, near the Bpulevard Saint Michel. It was quite smal ( 61 square meters), but on saturday afternoons, we counted up to 80 people in it, which made it of of the most crowded places in the world ! The music fans were queuing up when the import shipments arrive; they didn't want to miss the imited editions, the 12 eps with bonus tracks etc...
It was a fantastic laboratory for the label; you could immediately feel the reaction of the people on a new record; you knew if a new releases would be a success the day it was released; if by the end of the day the pile was low, it meant it would be a success for the label. In the beginning the only space for the label was a very small room of 5 squre meters at the back of the store. After a year, it became a nightmare; we had no room to put the deilveries from the pressing plant, and we were releasing more and more records. Thanks God, we could get a second store in the same building, which ebcame our ware house. In 1989, it also became too small,so
we had to move the warehouse to a much bigger place in the suburbs, in Kremin-Bicetre. The original store becam a reggae store, and Our store moved next door to the former ware house. This second New Rose store was probably better than the first one, but it did not have the same charm. It closed its doors in 1993.
