"TRY OUT" / "BY PASS"

Spatsz was born in 1957 in Nancy, France. After leaving his job in a psychiatric hospital in 1976, he started to work on synthesizers and rythm-boxes.

Mona Soyoc, born in 1959 in Stamford, Connecticut (USA) sung in a jazz band before she met Spatsz. She also plays electric guitar and piano.

In January 1980, they both decide to form KAS PRODUCT, working on their own compositions. Soon after, they start recording their first E.P: "Mind" which they make at home with a two-tracks TEAC machine. This first E.P. is released on April 1980 by a local record label : the initial pressing of 1000 copies is sold within a couple of weeks... And in May 1980, they make their very first public appearance, opening for THIS HEAT in Nancy.

The following summer, KAS PRODUCT record (in the same conditions as their first E.P) "Take Me Tonight" (3 titles) released in September 1980. "Take Me Tonight" gets much more attention from the radio stations, music press and audience.

March 1981 : The manager of top french MARQUIS DE SADE invites KAS PRODUCT on their massive french tour, visiting the major city of the country. The kids discover a new musical style, a voice... A legend is born.

From May to July 1981, KAS PRODUCT rehearses 11 new songs, doing demo tapes. These 11 songs are now included on their first album: "TRY OUT" which they record through August and September at Sunrise Studios in Switzerland (16 tracks). The production of that first LP is done by Gerard Nguyen and KAS PRODUCT. The press reviews are extatic. In August 1982, the pair plays three dates in London. They become the darling of the british papers. This is the very first time that a french band gets such attention in Great Britain !

February 1983 : KAS PRODUCT records a second album at Studio Sorcerer Sound in New York : "BY PASS". More than a decade later, these two superb masterworks are reissued on CD format. Spatsz's frantic electronics and Mona's wild vocals still lead the listener to an explosive climax, an extatic dance and groove transe. Cold sweat and hot tempos !
