From the Cape Verde Islands, Lena is a shy, talented and rather refreshing artist.Born in 1957 (in Praia), she started to sing at the early age of six. Years later, she joined SIMENTERA, the most important band of the island. There, she met Mario Lucio Sousa (musician and reference in Cape Verde music) and with his help, recorded her first solo album.
Her debut CD is intitled "Amornado" (for Love and Morna) and is a collection of 9 haunting and mournful songs. In a very traditional way, Lena's morna songs are 'suffer's music' and explore the Soul of Cape Verde. Mario Lucio Sousa, producer and part-composer of the album) declares "We are melancholic, but it is a happy melancholy. We sing with our souls, but our singing is not sad.
